The Right Bed Dimensions

Overview
When asked what our favorite part of the house is, many of us will answer the bedroom because it provides us with lots of opportunity to relax at the end of a long day. Bed by any means is the most important part of the bedroom, and although we may be able to differentiate the bed sizes, not many of us know specific bed dimensions. It’s important to have a little knowledge in bed dimensions because then we would know what frames to buy and what sheets are an exact fit for these.

Mattress Sizes (read more: Mattress Dimensions)
The different mattress sizes is the first thing we need to know when it comes to bed dimensions. Although many of us would have an idea about the difference in size between a twin, queen or king sized bed, most of us wouldn’t have any idea when it comes to detailed specifications. If for example we found a super-great bed frame made of iron, when it comes to buying the mattress, we can only second guess which mattress is a fit.

Here’s the bed dimensions:

  • Twin : 39×75 inches or 99×190 cm
  • Queen : 60×80 inches or 153×203 cm
  • King : 76×80 inches or 198×203 cm

But then there are the sizes in between these standard bed dimensions that we need to think about. For example, extra long twin mattress, full, and California king are one of them. California king is 72 by 84 inches, full is 54 by 75 inches and extra long twin is 39 by 80 inches.

Bed Sheets
The look of a bed sheet is not the only consideration when buying one for the bed. These bed sheets have specific measurements in relation to the size of the mattress. In fact, fitted sheets follow the bed dimensions of the mattress and so once we know what size the mattress is, the rest becomes easy. There are 2 types of bed sheets: the fittet sheets, and the flat sheets. When we say fitted sheets, these would have garter at the corners to make sure the sheet wraps around the mattress in a perfect fit and does not move as we move at night. In the other hand, flat sheets don’t have the garter on the sides and are bigger.
